New Delhi: A dispute over just ₹3,500 turned violent in northeast Delhi's Harsh Vihar area, where a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employee was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon. Police acted swiftly and arrested a father and son in connection with the case. According to police, both accused were apprehended within two hours of the registration of the FIR. Further investigation is underway.

Attack Near Gullu Temple

Northeast District Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Alwal said police received information about a physical assault involving a sharp weapon at around 5 pm on October 18. The incident took place near Gullu Temple in Gali No. 1, Part II, Saboli Khadda.

When personnel from Harsh Vihar police station reached the spot, they learnt that the injured man had already been taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital by his friend. The injured person was identified as Ashish, 34, an MCD employee.

According to his statement to the police, he was sitting with his colleague Sonu Sagar when an argument broke out over a financial dispute involving Pratap Singh. The situation allegedly escalated when Pratap Singh's 26-year-old son, Ashish, and one of his grandsons also arrived at the spot. The injured man was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon, after which the accused fled.

CCTV Footage and Intelligence Help Police Make Arrests

Police registered FIR No. 320/2026 under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A team was formed under the leadership of Station House Officer Inspector Tej Dutt Gaur. The team included Sub-Inspector Deepanshu, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashish, and Head Constables Rohit, Ankit, Rahul Malik and Sharad.

Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Gaurav Kumar Tripathi of Nand Nagri, the team examined CCTV footage and used local intelligence and technical surveillance to identify and arrest the two accused.

Dispute Over Money Given for a Job

During the investigation, police found that the dispute allegedly stemmed from ₹3,500. According to police, Pratap Singh had reportedly given the amount to Sonu Sagar in connection with arranging an MCD job for his son, Rahul.

Pratap Singh allegedly suspected that Sonu had kept the money instead of using it for the intended purpose. The disagreement over the return of the amount escalated and allegedly led to the attack.

The arrested accused have been identified as Pratap Singh, 54, and his 26-year-old son, Ashish. Police said no previous criminal record was found against either of them.

The investigation is continuing under the leadership of Northeast District DCP Rahul Alwal.
